UPDATE: A 15-year-old male has been charged in the Oct. 7 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Mason Caballero near Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah. Just announced, the juvenile was apprehended in Denver, Colorado, and is facing serious charges including aggravated murder.

This tragic incident unfolded at the intersection of 5th and Grammercy Avenue, where Caballero was shot and killed. According to Captain Tim Scott of the Ogden City Police Department, the young suspect has been charged with multiple felonies: one count of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder, 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor.

In a shocking twist, the suspect’s father, Fernando Renteria, aged 41, has also been charged with two counts of obstruction of justice. Authorities allege that Renteria assisted his son in fleeing the Ogden area post-shooting and transported him to Las Vegas. This adds a troubling layer to the case, emphasizing the involvement of family in the violence.

Earlier, the first suspect, Isaias Emanuel Carranza, aged 16, was arrested on Oct. 11. Carranza faces similar charges, including one count of aggravated murder and 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

The Ogden community is reeling from this violence, which has sparked discussions on youth safety and gun control. The tragic loss of Mason Caballero highlights the urgent need for addressing these issues in schools and neighborhoods.

As the investigation continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any further information related to this case. Authorities are expected to provide more updates in the coming days.

Stay tuned for more developments as this story unfolds.
