Mamma Mia! Starring Seyfried and Streep Set for Prime Video Release
The beloved musical film, Mamma Mia!, featuring Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep, will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting November 15, 2025. This announcement adds to the excitement surrounding the film, which is based on the songs of the Swedish pop group ABBA and has captivated audiences since its initial release.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the original Mamma Mia! premiered on September 12, 2008, and grossed over $600 million worldwide against a production budget of approximately $52 million. The film’s success was bolstered by its engaging storyline, which follows Streep’s character, Donna, a single mother running a hotel who is busy preparing for her daughter’s wedding. Seyfried plays Sophie, who is determined to discover the identity of her biological father before the big day.
Following the success of the first film, a sequel titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was released in July 2018 but received a more muted response, earning around $395 million at the box office. The sequel maintained the charm of the original while diving deeper into the backstory of its characters.
At the recent Toronto International Film Festival, Seyfried hinted that a third installment of the franchise is in the works. She stated, “It is, yes. I think. We all said, ‘Yeah, definitely.’ It’s our way of marketing and getting support. Big movies like that are all about studio timing.” Seyfried’s enthusiasm for the project has reignited interest among fans eager for more musical joy.
The actress also reflected on her decision to star in the sequel rather than participate in the production of Wicked in 2018, explaining, “I remember they did Mamma Mia! 2 instead of Wicked. They could only do one big movie at that time, so we ended up slotting into that.” Her comments highlight the complex decisions involved in the film industry regarding scheduling and project selection.
With the upcoming release on Prime Video, new audiences will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Mamma Mia! and its star-studded cast. As anticipation builds for a possible third film, fans can look forward to revisiting the world of Donna and Sophie, filled with catchy ABBA hits and heartwarming moments.
