Baltimore Faces Weather Whiplash: High Winds and Temperature Swings
UPDATE: Baltimore is bracing for a dramatic shift in weather today, as swirling winds and fluctuating temperatures sweep across the region. The National Weather Service has confirmed that a clipper system is set to impact the area this evening, creating a whirlwind of conditions from mild temperatures to gusty winds.
Residents can expect temperatures to soar into the upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon, a striking contrast to the chill that has enveloped the city in recent days. However, with wind gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph, the day will feel brisk and unsettled. Authorities have issued Wind Advisories across much of the Allegheny Front, reminding everyone to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
As of early this morning, temperatures ranged from the mid-30s to low 40s, with cooler spots along the Allegheny Front dipping near freezing. Tonight, lows are projected to fall into the mid to upper 30s, and colder areas along the I-81 corridor could see temperatures drop to the upper 20s. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants from the cold and stay warm as conditions shift.
Looking ahead, Thursday is expected to bring persistent breezy and cooler air with gusts hitting 20 to 30 mph. However, relief is on the horizon as a high-pressure system approaches, promising more stable weather on Friday with near-average temperatures and clearer skies.
The weekend will present a mixed bag of weather: Saturday will start peacefully under high pressure, but low pressure moving in from the Ohio Valley will likely bring rain by Sunday afternoon. This rollercoaster of weather patterns is expected to continue, raising concerns about fire conditions due to the drying out of regional fuel sources.
For aviation enthusiasts, VFR conditions will prevail, but expect gusty winds. Mariners should prepare for Small Craft Advisories as turbulent waters are anticipated.
Stay tuned for further updates as Baltimore navigates this weather whiplash, and ensure you are prepared for the changing conditions.
