Grassfield Girls Capture Volleyball Region Championship; Cosby Boys Fall

URGENT UPDATE: The Grassfield girls’ volleyball team has claimed the Class 6 Region A championship, dominating Thomas Dale with a decisive 3-0 victory. This championship win at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia on November 11, 2025, showcased the Grizzlies’ powerful performance, with standout players contributing to the team’s success.

In a match that captivated fans, Grassfield triumphed with set scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-11. Key contributors included Benisa Moore, Kenzie Johnson, Emery Stahl, and Lauren Dolbeck, each delivering five kills, while Ryann Bothof anchored the defense with an impressive 24 digs.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ arena, the Grizzlies faced a tough battle against Cosby High School in the Class 6 Region A championship, but unfortunately fell short, losing 3-1 in sets of 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-20. Isaiah Agustin was visibly disappointed as he walked off the court, reflecting the emotional weight of the loss at home.

In other regional action, the Class 4 Eastern Section championship saw No. 3 Heritage defeat No. 4 Gloucester with a score of 3-1 (26-28, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23). Marcus Dozier led Heritage with a remarkable double-double, achieving 20 kills and 13 digs.

Additionally, the Class 4 Region A championship featured No. 1 Grafton overpowering No. 3 Jamestown with a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-20, 25-16). Kenzie Smith emerged as a star player with 21 kills and three blocks, paving the way for Grafton’s next challenge against Atlee in the Class 4 state quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m.

In the Class 3 Region A semifinals, No. 1 New Kent easily defeated No. 4 Lakeland 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-9) and will host No. 2 Tabb in the finals. Tabb secured their spot by overcoming No. 3 Colonial Heights with a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-13), highlighted by senior Madi Pratt’s team-high 15 kills.
