House Armed Services Chair Demands Transparency on U.S. Boat Strikes
URGENT UPDATE: Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) is calling for immediate transparency from the Trump Administration regarding the legal basis for recent U.S. strikes on suspected drug boats originating from Latin America. This demand follows a closed-door briefing held on November 5, 2023, where Rogers and other lawmakers were informed about the ongoing operations.
In a statement to The Epoch Times on November 12, 2023, Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, expressed strong support for the operations but emphasized the need for public disclosure. “There was nothing that we should have been in a SCIF talking about,” he stated, referring to the sensitive compartmented information facility where the briefing took place. “They should be talking to all y’all, because it was very well done, completely legal what they’re doing, and they should be more transparent about it, in my view.”
Rogers’ remarks highlight a growing concern among lawmakers regarding the government’s communication on military operations. The strikes, aimed at combating drug trafficking, are critical to U.S. national security. However, the lack of public information raises questions about oversight and accountability.
As the situation develops, the call for transparency could lead to significant political pressure on the administration to clarify its legal standing and operational protocols. The implications of these strikes extend beyond national security, affecting international relations and the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the Americas.
Expect further developments as lawmakers push for answers. The public’s right to know the legal rationale behind military actions is a fundamental aspect of democratic governance. The administration’s response to this call for transparency will be closely monitored by both lawmakers and the public alike.
