Marjorie Sack Hobday, 95, Passes Away Surrounded by Family
URGENT UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, aged 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025. Surrounded by her loving family, Marjorie’s legacy of creativity and community spirit will be deeply missed.
Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack.
Marjorie’s educational journey took her through St. Agnes School, Burnt Hills High School, and Skidmore College, where she cultivated a lifelong love for music. Together with Richard, she was an active member of several musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. Their musical talents also graced numerous church choirs, most notably at Calvary Church.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Marjorie developed a resourceful spirit, often crafting and sewing for her family. Her passion for gardening brought beauty to her home, while summers spent at their beloved camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir were filled with cherished memories of wildlife and outdoor adventures.
A celebration of Marjorie’s life will take place with a Mass on Thursday, November 6, 202511:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, a reception will be held in the church hall, welcoming all who wish to honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or the Estherville Animal Shelter. Arrangements are entrusted to Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, where friends and family can leave messages on Marjorie’s Book of Memories at www.TownleyWheelerFH.com.
Marjorie Sack Hobday will be remembered for her grace, creativity, and the harmony she brought to her family and community. As her loved ones gather to celebrate her life, they will carry forward her spirit of love and music.
