Massachusetts Faces Cold Blast and Freezing Rain This Weekend
URGENT UPDATE: Massachusetts is bracing for a cold and blustery Friday as forecasters warn of a potential freezing rain risk this weekend. The National Weather Service has confirmed that temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-40s across much of the state, with the Berkshires and northern Central Massachusetts barely hitting 40 degrees.
Residents should prepare for gusty winds that will make it feel even colder throughout the day. In Boston, the forecast predicts increasing clouds with a high of 46 degrees and a low of 29 degrees. Meanwhile, Hyannis will see a high of 45 degrees and a low of 31 degrees.
Those in Pittsfield may experience a slight chance of rain and snow showers in the afternoon, with highs barely reaching 40 degrees and a low dropping to 22 degrees. Springfield will enjoy mostly sunny conditions, hitting 46 degrees for the day, while Worcester also stays mostly sunny at 43 degrees, cooling down to 26 degrees at night.
As night falls, temperatures are expected to plummet into the low and mid-20s across much of Massachusetts. Coastal areas might remain slightly warmer, but residents should remain cautious of the impending weather changes.
Looking ahead to Saturday, sunshine will greet the morning before rain clouds roll in by afternoon. The precipitation is expected to start Saturday night, spreading from west to east. Forecasters caution that higher terrains may face a risk of freezing rain as the storm approaches, although temperatures are expected to rise overnight, reducing the likelihood of icy conditions.
Rain is projected to taper off by Sunday morning, as the cold front moves out of the state. Initial temperatures on Sunday may start in the 50s but will drop sharply into the 30s by the afternoon. Additionally, wind gusts could escalate to 40 mph by late morning, further complicating the weather situation.
Residents are urged to stay updated on weather conditions as this developing storm approaches. The overall impact on travel and outdoor plans is significant, and precautions should be taken to ensure safety during this cold spell.
Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving weather situation.
