UPDATE: A mother is sharing a harrowing story after her 12-year-old son was brutally beaten in a Staten Island park on Halloween night. The attack occurred in New Dorp while the boy was hanging out with friends following trick-or-treating.

Mona Awad described the terrifying moment her son returned home, bloodied and traumatized. “Just kept hitting him in the face, and he’s telling them, ‘please stop hitting me, I didn’t do anything,'” Awad recounted, visibly shaken. Her son suffered severe injuries, including a split lip and nearly losing a front tooth. “I see his face leaking, and he’s crying, and that was it,” she added. Awad rushed out of the house, frantic to understand what had happened.

The incident unfolded when the boy and a friend were approached by two suspects who pinned them against a fence without warning. “I was just yelling, ‘stop! I didn’t really do anything at all! Stop!'” the victim said, recounting the moment he was attacked. He described being punched repeatedly and having his head bashed against the fence.

The attack is believed to be connected to an earlier incident in the same park where a group of boys allegedly harassed three girls. Awad insists her son was not involved and was elsewhere trick-or-treating at the time. Concerned for her son’s safety, she fears he was mistaken for one of the harassers and brutally assaulted with what she suspects were brass knuckles. “He could have dropped dead a block away from me,” Awad expressed, highlighting the severity of the attack.

As of now, police are actively investigating the incident but have not made any arrests. Awad’s son has not returned to school since the frightening event, expressing anxiety about being seen. “I’ve lost sleep over it. The kid hasn’t gone back to school yet,” she said, emphasizing the emotional toll on her family.

This attack has raised urgent questions about safety in local parks and the need for increased vigilance. With no suspects in custody, the community remains on edge, and Awad is calling for justice for her son.

Officials urge anyone with information to come forward as they work to prevent further violence. The emotional impact of this attack is profound, affecting not just the victim but the entire community.
