CD Projekt Red Delivers Unsettling Update on The Witcher 4 Release

A highly anticipated update on the release of The Witcher 4 has emerged from CD Projekt Red, revealing that the game will not launch in 2026. During a Q&A session at the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, CEO Michał Nowakowski and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz addressed inquiries about the game’s development alongside updates on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2.

In response to questions about the status of The Witcher 4, Nowakowski confirmed that the game is currently in its “full-scale production phase.” Despite this progress, he refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the target release window or any technical challenges that could influence the timeline. “The only thing we’re commenting is that we’re not launching in 2026,” he stated.

While this announcement may disappoint fans eagerly awaiting the game, Nowakowski provided some optimistic news. He mentioned that CD Projekt Red aims to release future titles within a six-year timeframe, suggesting a shorter development cycle between The Witcher 4 and its sequels. “In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time,” he noted. “Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period.”

The excitement surrounding The Witcher 4 remains strong, as it was recently nominated for the Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards 2024. On November 26, 2025, Nowakowski took to X (formerly Twitter) to express gratitude to fans for the nomination. However, he cautioned that no new content would be showcased at the upcoming awards ceremony.

“I’m very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thanks to everyone who has already voted – your support means a lot to us. We won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we’re, as always, excited to watch the…” he tweeted.

The game is set to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. While an official release date has not been confirmed, it will continue the narrative after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The story will focus on Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri, with Geralt appearing in a supporting role. Notably, Doug Cockle will reprise his role as Geralt, while Ciara Berkeley will voice Ciri, taking over from Jo Wyatt, who portrayed the character in the previous installment.
