Community Mourns the Loss of Al Carbone, 92, Dedicated Public Servant

Alfred V. “Al” Carbone, a respected member of the Woburn community and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of ninety-two. His legacy includes years of service as a firefighter and a photographer, capturing the essence of the city he cherished.

Early Life and Career

Born in East Boston to the late Vincent M. Carbone and Antonietta M. (Capone), Al was raised in Woburn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Woburn High School and developed a profound appreciation for the outdoors during his youth, particularly enjoying hunting. Al’s passion for photography emerged early in his life and became a central part of both his personal and professional endeavors.

Before embarking on his career in public service, Al honorably served in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines, experiences he held in high regard. Following his military service, he devoted many years to the City of Woburn as a firefighter, where he served with courage and dedication.

Family and Community Impact

In addition to his firefighting career, Al worked for decades as a photographer for the Woburn Daily Times. His lens captured countless moments that told the story of his beloved city and its residents. Al’s inventive spirit and ability to create and fix things earned him a reputation as a true jack of all trades.

Al leaves behind a loving family, including his sons Alan Carbone and his wife Jeanne of Salem, NH; Daniel Carbone and his wife Marianne of Danvers; Brian Carbone of Salem, NH; and his late daughter Lynne Carbone. He is also survived by his sister Janet Carbone of Maine, along with the late Peter Carbone and Vincent Carbone. Al was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and great-grandfather to eight, who brought him immense joy.

Known for his quiet warmth and unwavering integrity, Al Carbone will be remembered not only for his commitment to family but also for his contributions to the Woburn community. His photographs and stories have immortalized the lives of those around him, leaving a lasting impact.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Church, located at 280 Main Street in Woburn, on December 6, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours prior to the Mass, from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
