Feed the Children and Chickasaw Nation Provide Aid to 800 Families

Feed the Children, in collaboration with the Chickasaw Nation, will host a Resource Rally on December 13, 2023, aimed at assisting 800 families in Ada, Oklahoma. Scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 14:00 at the Pontotoc County AgriPlex, this event addresses the growing need for food and essential items as the holiday season approaches.

Participants will receive a 25-pound box of shelf-stable food, which includes canned vegetables, soup, and cereal. Additionally, a 15-pound box containing personal care items, children’s books, and toys will also be provided. The distribution will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing the urgency of support for local families.

Oklahoma consistently ranks among the states with the highest levels of food insecurity. According to federal data, approximately 16% of Ada residents live below the poverty line, underscoring the critical need for such assistance.

Emily Callahan, president and CEO of Feed the Children, highlighted the challenges many families face during the holiday season. “The holidays can be especially difficult for families struggling to put food on the table, and far too many children are going without the food and hygiene essentials they need to thrive this time of year,” Callahan stated. She emphasized the importance of the long-standing partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, which has enabled both organizations to make a more significant impact on the community.

This collaboration has proven vital over the years, helping to alleviate food insecurity for numerous families in Oklahoma.
