Greeley Initiates Search for New Public Works Director After Trombino’s Departure
The city of Greeley has commenced the search for a new public works director following the resignation of Paul Trombino on December 1, 2023. Trombino served in this role for four years, having previously held positions as the director and Homeland Security advisor for the state of Iowa. His leadership significantly impacted various city projects, including the Greeley-Weld County Airport improvement initiative and the Mobility Expansion for Regional Growth and Equity (MERGE) program.
During his tenure, Trombino spearheaded several critical infrastructure projects. Among these was the Catalyst project, which is set to undergo a citywide vote concerning a zoning ordinance that the city council approved earlier this year. Acting City Manager Brian McBroom praised Trombino’s contributions, stating, “Paul Trombino has been a tremendous asset to the city. We are grateful for his technical expertise and leadership of daily operations and the many infrastructure projects he championed.”
Trombino’s achievements also included initiating new stormwater improvements, a substantial $500 million investment aimed at enhancing the city’s capacity to manage storm events and addressing aging infrastructure. He played a pivotal role in recruiting Alquist 3D, a company specializing in 3D printing for construction, which collaborates with the Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity on the Hope Springs project. His salary at the time of departure was $228,800, according to Kim Kappel, Greeley Public Information Officer.
The city has not disclosed the specific reasons for Trombino’s departure, labeling it a personnel matter. The job posting for his successor indicates that the new director will be responsible for overseeing ongoing city projects, securing necessary funding, and maintaining interdepartmental communication. The anticipated salary range for the position is between $161,900 and $198,350, with a potential maximum salary of $234,800, contingent on the candidate’s experience.
According to the 2024 census data, the median household income for Greeley residents stands at approximately $76,462. The city aims to fill the public works director position promptly, indicating no intentions to appoint an interim director. Meanwhile, the current deputy public works director, Will Jones, is set to take on the role of public works director in Loveland starting January 12, 2024.
In addition to the search for a new public works director, Greeley is also seeking a replacement for city manager Raymond Lee, who recently announced his resignation. Lee has been named the next city administrator for Portland, Oregon, marking a new chapter in his career.
As Greeley navigates these leadership transitions, the city remains focused on its ongoing projects and infrastructure improvements, critical to supporting future growth and development.
