Born on July 3, Jim always celebrated his birthday with vibrant Fourth of July festivities. He was the third of five children of the late Joseph A. Early, Esq. and Loretto Powers Early, and is survived by his loving sister Elizabeth M. Early, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family is heartbroken as they remember him fondly. He is survived by four daughters: Grace E. Boss (Mark) of Waterford, Jane F. Early of Tonawanda, Margaret H. Warner of Halfmoon, and Kathleen L. Early of Waterford, along with nine beloved grandchildren. His daughter Mary Ellen Early preceded him in death earlier this year on June 26, 2025.

Jim’s contributions to his community were profound. He served as a Guidance Counselor at St. Mary’s Academy and taught English Composition at Hudson Valley Community College for over three decades, impacting countless students until his retirement in December 1999. Following his retirement, he dedicated ten years as the Sole Assessor for the Town and Village of Waterford.

A passionate volunteer, Jim was a member of the J. W. Ford Hose Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years, showcasing his commitment to public service. He was also known for his musical talent, serving as a pipe organist at Saint Joseph’s Parish in South Troy and participating in the Knights of Columbus and the Waterford Lions Club.

In his later years, Jim faced health challenges and received compassionate care at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center in Troy. His funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, followed by a mass at noon at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. The Early family requests that contributions be made in Jim’s memory to The Hospice Community or the Waterford Fire Department, honoring his lifelong commitment to service.

Jim’s legacy of kindness and community involvement will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. For those wishing to express their condolences or share memories, please visit: www.Brendesefuneralhome.com.
