URGENT UPDATE: Thousands are set to gather in Bucks County on December 25, 2025, to witness a powerful reenactment of a pivotal moment in American history: General George Washington leading 2,400 troops across the icy Delaware River on Christmas Day in 1776. This iconic event will unfold at Washington Crossing Historic Park, drawing attention to a rich narrative that shaped the United States.

The reenactment, a cherished tradition for 73 years, not only commemorates Washington’s daring move against British and Hessian forces but also fosters community pride and unity. “On Christmas Day — such an important day — individuals are not only making that time for their family, but they’re coming together as a community to create new memories,” said Jennifer Martin, executive director of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park.

As the nation prepares for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence next year, the park is ramping up its programming to celebrate this significant milestone. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, thinking about our nation’s founding,” Martin emphasized. The park plans to offer a variety of events throughout the year, engaging local, national, and international visitors with living history presentations that breathe life into Revolutionary War narratives.

One notable initiative will feature reenactors from On the Army’s Strength, a civilian-based group dedicated to highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women during the Revolutionary War. “We’re focusing on telling a very rich narrative of what the American Revolution was like, not just for the average enlisted man or for General Washington, but also the voices of women who followed or the free and enslaved Black soldiers,” said Samantha Allison, Civilian Programs Coordinator at the park.

Allison, who founded the group in 2019, emphasizes the importance of sharing these diverse stories. “These narratives shine a light on the sacrifices made by so many different people to help create this country,” she stated.

Beyond the reenactment, the park is undergoing renovations to enhance visitor experiences, including the addition of a replica of the boats used by Washington and his troops. A new documentary about the reenactments will also be released, further enriching the historical context for attendees.

The Christmas Day reenactment will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at Washington Crossing Historic Park. Attendance is free, making this event accessible for all. As the nation gears up for a historic year ahead, this reenactment stands as a testament to community resilience and patriotism.
