UPDATE: An urgent search is underway for 24-year-old Sydney Marquez, who went missing on December 11, 2023, while visiting friends in Houston. Her family is pleading for help as critical video evidence has now been retrieved, which may hold the key to finding her.

Sydney was last spotted near the 9100 block of Bellaire Boulevard. According to her father, Raul Marquez, surveillance footage shows her leaving a friend’s car and walking away. Witnesses reported that she may have boarded a northbound METRO bus at the intersection of Gessner and Harwin, en route to the Little York area.

“The car was running. We have video of her going northbound on Ranchester. That’s the last solid evidence we have,” Raul Marquez stated. “I have the exact time when she boarded that bus. That footage is a matter of life and death.”

In a significant development, the METRO Police Department (MPD) has confirmed they have successfully retrieved the bus video initially thought to be unavailable. This footage has been turned over to the Houston Police Department (HPD), which is leading the investigation.

MPD officials expressed hope for Sydney’s safe return, emphasizing their commitment to assist HPD as the search progresses. “Time’s not on our side,” said Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch, which is also aiding in the efforts. “She’s a young girl who was walking late at night, not knowing the area. We just want to get her home safe.”

Sydney is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 120 pounds. She has short reddish-brown hair, brown eyes, and wears glasses. A distinctive four-leaf clover tattoo is visible on her left wrist. Concerns about her mental health have been raised by her father, who believes she may have been experiencing a mental health episode at the time of her disappearance.

“Sydney, you need to come home now. We miss you. We love you. Christmas is around the corner,” Raul Marquez implored in a heartfelt message to his daughter.

Witnesses have suggested that Sydney may have boarded the bus with two men who allegedly prevented her from using a phone offered to her at the bus stop. The retrieved bus video is crucial for identifying these individuals and understanding her last known movements.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Sydney Marquez’s whereabouts to contact the Houston Police Department at (832) 394-1840 or Texas EquuSearch at (281) 309-9500. Every moment counts in the search for Sydney, and the community is rallying to bring her home.
