Daniel Ezra Previews ‘All American’ Finale: A Sentimental Farewell
Daniel Ezra, known for his role as Spencer James on the popular series All American, has shared insights about the show’s upcoming finale, describing it as “very emotional.” During an exclusive interview at The Running Man premiere on November 9, 2025, Ezra revealed his excitement about directing the last episode of the CW drama, despite not having seen the script yet.
Ezra, who departed from All American as a series regular in 2024, remains involved by directing select episodes, including the finale. He noted that feedback from former co-stars has been overwhelmingly positive. “I’m hearing it’s beautiful,” he stated. “I’m getting calls from everybody saying, ‘I can’t stop crying’ at… however they ended it.”
Directing the Finale and Emotional Impact
The 33-year-old actor is enthusiastic about his role behind the camera, emphasizing the importance of delivering a satisfying conclusion to fans. “I actually get to direct the last-ever episode, which I cannot wait for,” he said. “I’m very excited to bring it home, and I’m convinced it’s going to give the fans that closure that they want.”
Ezra reflected on the significant impact All American has had on its audience, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “You know this show, it came out during the whole COVID of it all, and it meant so much to so many people,” he explained. “I still get stopped in the street by people telling me that the show got them through COVID and they grew up with the show, as did we.”
His final episode as a series regular aired on July 15, 2024, concluding Spencer’s journey with a long-awaited wedding to Olivia (played by Samantha Logan). Ezra had previously disclosed in a statement that he made the “difficult decision” to leave the series, calling season six “Spencer’s goodbye.” He characterized his character’s arc as complete, noting, “We’ve done that. We got him to the NFL, he got the girl. He accomplished his dreams.”
A Fond Farewell and Future Aspirations
Ezra expressed a sense of fulfillment regarding Spencer’s growth throughout the series. He remarked, “For me, the goal was always to take this broken teenager, put him back together, and then turn him into a man.” The actor also acknowledged that it felt appropriate to conclude Spencer’s story at this juncture. “I’m a big believer in going out on top, and as far as Spencer’s story specifically, it just felt right.”
Reflecting on his time with the cast and crew, Ezra stated, “I’ll miss him. I’ll miss our cast and crew. I hope it’s been as fun to watch him as it has been to play him.” He expressed optimism about the future of the series, hinting at new characters for audiences to connect with. “I think it’s safe to say there’s going to be new people to fall in love with, a new generation to follow,” he said. “I can’t wait to help guide them,” he added, comparing the experience to a “proud, sending your kid off to college type of moment.”
As All American approaches its conclusion, fans eagerly await a finale that promises to be both heartfelt and satisfying, encapsulating the essence of a series that has resonated deeply with viewers.
