Community Remembers Kathleen Grace Bergquist After Her Passing

Kathleen Grace Bergquist, a beloved member of the Naperville community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 43. Born on January 27, 1982, in Waukegan, Illinois, Kathleen faced significant health challenges from an early age, being diagnosed with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Her journey began with a loving mother who showed remarkable strength, ultimately leading to her adoption by the Bergquist family, who welcomed her with open arms.

Kathleen’s life was characterized by her deep love for family and her unwavering passion for animals. She was educated at Concord School in Westmont and Calvary Christian School in Naperville, where she endeared herself to many with her vibrant spirit. Her family, including her parents, Richard and Susan Bergquist, and siblings David, Steven, Jeffrey, Debbie, Mary, Michael David, Faith, and Crista Rose, will miss her dearly. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Noelle Joy and Gloria Christine, and is remembered fondly by her dear friend, John Malone.

A Life Dedicated to Animals and Community Service

Kathleen’s passion for animals was evident throughout her life. An experienced horseback rider, she volunteered at Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities, where she contributed by caring for horses and providing essential support to the organization. Her commitment to animal welfare extended to her work with veterinarian Dr. Eganhouse, where she played an instrumental role in caring for animals in need.

In addition to her volunteer work, Kathleen trained her dog for licensed therapy visitations, showcasing her dedication to helping others. She also had a unique bond with birds, often raising them and enjoying their company as they perched on her shoulder, singing joyfully.

Kathleen was also a strong swimmer, competing in the Special Olympics, which highlighted her resilience and determination. Her role as a caregiver to her younger siblings further exemplified her nurturing spirit and unwavering love for her family.

Final Farewell and Community Support

A visitation for Kathleen Grace Bergquist is scheduled for January 10, 2026, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory, located at 516 S. Washington St. The visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Naperville Cemetery.

The Bergquist family invites community members to honor Kathleen’s memory by planting a living memorial or sending flowers. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family and animals will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
