Pennsylvania Farm Show Launches Celebrations for America’s 250th Anniversary

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA — The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show officially commenced on Saturday, marking both the beginning of an eight-day agricultural exhibition and the start of a yearlong celebration for the nation’s 250th anniversary. State leaders, including Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the United States.

During the opening, Redding emphasized agriculture’s vital role in national history. “Today, we celebrate an enduring symbol,” he stated, highlighting the connection between farming and the country’s growth. He described agriculture as being formed from “soil and sweat, from orchards and barns,” and acknowledged the contributions of those who cultivate the land.

The event featured a lively ceremony with a mix of historical and modern elements. The Pennsylvania State Police mounted patrol, the Revolutionary New Philly Fife and Drum Company, and a color guard from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs contributed to the atmosphere. Adding to the festivities, Carly Green, a 14-year-old winner of the Farm Show’s Star Spangled Sing-Off, performed the National Anthem.

Celebrating Heritage and Innovation

This year’s theme, “Growing a Nation,” connects Pennsylvania’s agricultural legacy with the foundational years of the United States. It highlights how farmers have historically supported the nation and continue to be integral to its economic development. Cassandra Coleman, Executive Director of America250PA, remarked, “It feels exactly right to usher in the semiquincentennial year at the largest indoor agriculture exposition… alongside the people who feed our communities.”

A significant highlight of the day was the unveiling of a specially designed America250PA Semiquincentennial Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell adorned with a quilt-inspired motif created by Pittsburgh artist Cody Sabol. This bell will travel throughout the Farm Show Complex, while another bell at the America250PA exhibit allows visitors to leave their signatures in honor of the anniversary.

A Showcase of Pennsylvania’s Agricultural Excellence

The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show runs until January 17, 2026, boasting nearly 5,000 animals, over 12,000 competitive entries from more than 4,600 competitors, and upwards of 250 commercial exhibits. Spanning more than one million square feet, the event is free to attend, with parking available at $15 per vehicle.

Attendees can expect to see beloved traditions, including the iconic 1,000-pound butter sculpture, the Farm Show Food Court, and competitions like sheep-to-shawl and lumberjacking. The PA Preferred Culinary Connection will offer live cooking demonstrations, allowing visitors to engage with the industry that supports approximately 593,000 jobs in Pennsylvania and generates $132.5 billion annually for the state’s economy.
