Charles E. Lowe, Beloved Community Leader, Passes at 92
UPDATE: Charles E. Lowe Jr., a beloved figure in Newington and dedicated community leader, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92. He died on January 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service that touched the lives of many.
Lowe, known affectionately as Charlie, was a longtime resident of Newington, where he spent his later years after raising his family in West Hartford. A graduate of The Loomis School, Class of 1951, he went on to study at Bryant College and the University of Connecticut. Charlie was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Lowe Manufacturing in both Simsbury and Newington.
His commitment to community service was evident in his founding membership with the Newington Rotary Club, which he joined in 1960. Throughout his life, he actively participated in its mission of fellowship and charity, making impactful contributions to the local community.
Charlie’s passing leaves a profound void for his family and friends. He is survived by his cherished children, Peter Lowe and his wife Julie, and Deborah Gilles and her husband David. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Valerie, Benjamin, Samuel, Brian, Christopher, and Adam, along with his great-grandson Adriano, and another great-grandchild on the way.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, located at 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington. A memorial service will be held the following day at Lifeway Church, 2172 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at Casa Mia Hawthorne, 2421 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin. A private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In honor of Charlie’s lifelong commitment to education, donations can be made to the Newington Rotary Scholarship Fund, a cause he was instrumental in establishing. Contributions can be mailed to Newington Rotary, P.O. Box 310094, Newington, CT 06111.
As a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner, Charlie was known for his generous spirit and unwavering dedication to family and community. His impact will be remembered by many who were fortunate enough to know him. For those wishing to share memories, please visit www.duksa.net.
