Billionaire Donates $10,000 to ICE Agent Following Fatal Shooting

Bill Ackman, the billionaire investor and philanthropist, has made a significant donation of $10,000 to a GoFundMe campaign supporting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved in a fatal shooting in Minneapolis last week. The agent, identified as Jonathan Ross, reportedly fired shots at Renee Nicole Good during what federal officials described as an active ICE operation.

The GoFundMe page was set up to assist Ross, who has faced intense scrutiny following the incident. Ackman’s donation was the highest listed on the page, which states, “After seeing all the media BS about a domestic terrorist getting GoFundMe, I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a GoFundMe.”

Ackman confirmed his contribution in a post on social media platform X, mentioning his intention to support Good’s family as well. Unfortunately, he noted that the fundraising effort for Good had already closed by the time he attempted to contribute. “I am a big believer in our legal principle that one is innocent until proven guilty,” he wrote.

The shooting has sparked considerable debate and criticism. Vice President JD Vance characterized Good’s actions as an attempt to obstruct law enforcement, suggesting that her death resulted from increasing hostility toward officers. In contrast, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey publicly condemned the incident, arguing that the agent acted recklessly. Frey held a news conference on March 15, 2024, demanding a thorough investigation into the events surrounding the shooting.

The investigation into the shooting has since been taken over by the FBI, which has sidelined state authorities and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. New video footage released on March 15 shows the agent’s perspective during the incident, intensifying discussions about accountability and the circumstances leading to Good’s death.

The GoFundMe campaign supporting Good’s family had received over $1.5 million in donations before fundraising was paused. Ackman expressed his view on the tragedy, emphasizing the complexities of the situation. “The whole situation is a tragedy. An officer doing his best to do his job, and a protester who likely did not intend to kill the officer but whose actions in a split second led to her death,” he stated.
