H Mart to Launch Largest U.S. Store in Fremont by 2026

Asian supermarket chain H Mart is set to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont, California, with construction scheduled to commence in late 2026. This new flagship store will occupy a two-story space within the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, a significant move for the retailer as it seeks to expand its footprint in the Bay Area.

The announcement was made by Vestar, the management company for the shopping center, on Tuesday. Vestar highlighted that this venture represents the largest investment in the company’s history, aiming to create a unique shopping experience that includes a food hall featuring various fast-casual eateries, dine-in restaurants, and a bar. This innovative approach will make the Fremont location a first-of-its-kind H Mart store.

H Mart President Brian Kwon commented on the development, stating, “This new location represents a bold new chapter for us. By blending elevated dining and community spaces, we are creating a premier destination for food lovers where diverse ethnicities of friends and neighbors can gather.”

Fremont’s Mayor Raj Salwan also praised the project, calling it a “transformative investment.” He noted that the store, spanning 100,000 square feet, is a strategic effort to repurpose a vacant retail space. “The innovative reuse of a vacant large-format retail space reflects the City’s strategic commitment to reimagining vacant commercial properties into destinations that generate jobs, amenities, and lasting community value,” Salwan added.

The new H Mart will be the retailer’s fourth location in the Bay Area, joining existing stores in San Francisco, Dublin, and two in San Jose. H Mart was founded in 1982, starting its journey in Woodside, Queens. This expansion reflects the chain’s ongoing commitment to serving diverse communities and enhancing the local economy.

As construction plans progress, the Fremont store is expected to become a central hub for the community, providing not only groceries but also a variety of dining and entertainment options that cater to a wide array of tastes and preferences.
