Harrison Township’s L’Anse Creuse showcased a remarkable performance on March 5, 2024, defeating Warren Fitzgerald 58-38 in a decisive game within the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division. The Lancers delivered a stellar second quarter, outscoring their opponents 24-6, largely due to their impressive shooting from beyond the arc.

Dominant Second Quarter Sets the Tone

After leading 14-11 following the first quarter, L’Anse Creuse erupted with a barrage of three-pointers, netting five during the second period alone. This offensive surge propelled them to a comfortable halftime lead of 38-17. “I thought we shot it really well tonight, especially in that second quarter,” said L’Anse Creuse coach David Kuznia. “We started to hit our threes and went on that big run.”

The Lancers’ victory improves their record to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the MAC Gold, placing them in close contention with St. Clair, who they will face in an upcoming league showdown. Kuznia noted the development of his players, highlighting the experience gained by the four juniors who were sophomores last season. “They have been playing together for longer,” he explained. “I think that showed in a game like this.”

Outstanding Individual Performances

Junior guard Allison Tuladziecki was the standout player, scoring a game-high 27 points, including six three-pointers. Tuladziecki’s early contributions were critical, as her first five field goals were all from beyond the arc. She also went 5-for-8 from the foul line and added two two-point baskets to her tally.

Other notable contributions came from senior guard Alexa Miricle, who scored 10 points with two three-pointers, and senior forward Avery Starnes, who added eight points. Junior center Elisia Simpson made her presence felt in the paint with six points and an impressive 13 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Fitzgerald displayed resilience. Sophomore Aliyah White led her team with 19 points, while junior Shavon Williams and senior Taylor McCants chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively. First-year coach Connie Frikken reflected on the challenge of facing a high-scoring L’Anse Creuse team. “We were only down three entering the second quarter, but then L’Anse Creuse really started to make shots,” she said. “We played hard but had some foul trouble, and once they scored 24 points in the second quarter, we struggled to catch up.”

With this victory, L’Anse Creuse continues to build momentum in the MAC Gold Division, demonstrating their capability to compete at a higher level after only two wins last season. The upcoming match against St. Clair promises to be a significant test as the Lancers look to solidify their standing in the league.
