Innovative Wellness Products Unveiled at Kitchen & Bath Show
The recent Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando showcased a diverse range of innovative products aimed at enhancing wellness in home environments. From smart toilets that monitor gut health to advanced garbage disposals that eliminate bacteria, industry leaders are focusing on the intersection of technology and wellness in home design.
Bill Darcy, CEO of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, emphasized the importance of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and smart technology into home products. He stated, “It’s going to be around for a while. The technology and the wellness are more of an expectation,” as reported by GrowthSpotter. Darcy noted that companies are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and health in their designs, catering to evolving consumer expectations.
Among the standout innovations was Kohler Health, which introduced a new line of wellness products, including infrared saunas and cold plunge tubs. The highlight was the debut of the Dekoda device, which affixes to the side of toilet bowls. This device uses light-based sensors to monitor users’ hydration levels and gut health. Priced at under $1,000, it tests urine pH levels and alerts users to potential health concerns such as urinary tract infections or blood in stool.
Darcy expressed personal interest in the Dekoda, indicating plans to purchase two units for his family. He highlighted the potential for early detection of health issues, noting, “Why not have early indications of something going wrong that you could say it’s not too late?”
In addition to Kohler’s innovations, InSinkErator unveiled its latest garbage disposal line, featuring the patented LEDefense system. Senior Products Manager Carly Kelly explained that this technology employs antimicrobial LED lights to combat odor-causing bacteria and mold in sink drains. “It kills 99% of the odor-causing bacteria, viruses, and mold,” Kelly stated. The system, which can be retrofitted to existing disposals, operates continuously to maintain cleanliness.
Another notable introduction came from JennAir, which presented its NextGen Downdraft induction cooktops. These models aim to minimize kitchen noise and odors and are priced at $5,000 for a 30-inch version. Darcy praised the innovative design, highlighting that the downdraft mechanism is now centrally located, enhancing its effectiveness and reducing operational noise.
Meanwhile, Kenmore showcased a new dishwasher equipped with smart technology that senses when dishes are clean, optimizing water and electricity usage. Notably, the dishwasher features an EasyReach bottom rack that raises to waist level, alleviating the need for users to bend down when loading and unloading. This model is priced at $1,499 and represents a significant step forward in practical kitchen technology.
Startups are also contributing to this trend. ClouzerAI, for instance, introduced a platform that integrates with HVAC systems, smart lighting, and air purifiers to enhance energy efficiency and air quality. The system includes a sleep sensor that can transform a standard mattress into a smart one, monitoring sleep quality and heart rate to optimize comfort throughout the night. Alan Margolis from ClouzerAI noted, “It senses the quality of your sleep, so the REM, all of that, along with your heart rate, and then it adjusts everything automatically.”
The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show has clearly set the stage for a new era in home wellness, where technology not only simplifies tasks but also enhances the overall health of users. As companies continue to innovate, the emphasis on health and sustainability will likely shape the future of home design.
