Photographer Opens Studio Onyx for Creative Collaborations
Sarah Williams, a resident of Wells, has launched Studio Onyx, a new photography studio located on the second floor of the recently renovated The Broadway building. Opened in January 2023, the studio serves as a versatile space for photographers, content creators, and other artists to conduct photo shoots and creative projects.
Williams, who operates her own photography business, Sarah Marschall Photo, began her journey in photography as a hobby before establishing her business in 2020. She specializes in wedding photography, senior portraits, and lifestyle shoots. Williams faced challenges in finding available studio spaces in the area, prompting her long-standing ambition to create her own studio.
The opportunity arose in late 2022 when Williams learned about the available space at The Broadway. She expressed her admiration for the building, stating, “I’ve always thought it was stunning.” After discovering the possibility of renting space upstairs, Williams was determined to make her vision a reality.
“This location in downtown Albert Lea is perfect,” she said. “It’s convenient for everyone, and I love the building.” Williams also noted her appreciation for the community within the building and is optimistic about its future developments.
Creating a welcoming environment in Studio Onyx was paramount for Williams. Although she found the process of furnishing and decorating the studio somewhat challenging, she aimed for a design that would resonate with her personal style while remaining adaptable for other creatives. “I love the idea of design, and so like what colours and textures and what I want … the vibe to be in here,” she said.
Ultimately, Williams chose a clean and neutral aesthetic, which has proven successful for both her own shoots and those of rental clients. Feedback from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, further encouraging her efforts.
Currently, Williams is focused on raising awareness about Studio Onyx. The studio is available for hourly rentals, and interested parties can book sessions through her website, sarahmarschallphoto.com/studio-onyx. The studio is located at 201 S. Broadway Ave, on the second floor at the end of the hall.
Outside of her photography ventures, Williams resides in Wells with her husband and two children, balancing family life with her passion for photography and the management of Studio Onyx. As the studio grows, Williams looks forward to fostering a creative community that benefits local artists and enhances the artistic landscape of the region.
