Philadelphia Man Flees Police, Faces Up to 12 Years for Gun Charges
URGENT UPDATE: A 28-year-old Philadelphia man is facing severe legal repercussions after fleeing police during a traffic stop on the Schuylkill Expressway. Khiry Elijah Flowers has pled guilty to multiple felony charges, including illegal possession of a stolen firearm and fleeing from law enforcement, in a dramatic incident that unfolded in the early hours of August 5, 2025.
During a high-speed chase, Flowers was clocked at speeds exceeding 100 mph in a 2009 Audi sedan. Police attempted to pull him over at approximately 12:05 a.m. for a lane violation, but he initially slowed down before accelerating and attempting to evade capture, putting other drivers at risk. According to Trooper Maximilian Baptiste, Flowers executed numerous evasive maneuvers during the pursuit.
The chase ended when Flowers failed to navigate a curve after exiting the highway at Conshohocken and crashed the vehicle. He was apprehended at the scene and found without a seatbelt, authorities reported.
Officers discovered a stolen Taurus G3 pistol in Flowers’ pocket. This revelation came as Flowers admitted to fleeing due to being armed, lacking a driver’s license, and having an outstanding arrest warrant. His criminal history includes a prior robbery conviction, which legally barred him from possessing a firearm.
Flowers is currently held without bail at a county jail while he awaits sentencing. Judge Steven T. O’Neill has deferred sentencing to allow for a comprehensive background investigation, which will include evaluations for drug, alcohol, and mental health issues. He faces a potential sentence of 6 to 12 years in prison, although state guidelines may permit a lesser penalty.
In addition to the primary charges, Flowers has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering others, and driving under suspension. Notably, other charges related to this incident are expected to be dismissed at the time of sentencing.
This unfolding legal drama highlights critical issues surrounding illegal firearms and public safety, drawing attention to the dangers posed by high-speed police chases. As the case develops, legal experts and community members alike will be watching closely to see how the court addresses these serious charges.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as Flowers awaits his fate in court.
