Fans of the crime-drama series Dept. Q may face disappointment as news emerges regarding an extended filming schedule for its second season. While production is set to move forward, the anticipated timeline indicates that the series will take longer than previously expected to reach Netflix screens.

Production plans for Dept. Q Season 2 are now in place, with filming scheduled to commence in Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 13, 2026. According to Production Weekly, principal photography is expected to continue through December 2026, suggesting a prolonged wait for eager viewers. Earlier reports had indicated a potential filming start in spring 2026, but updated listings confirm the shift to a summer start.

The crime thriller, developed by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani, is an English-language adaptation of the popular Department Q novels authored by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The series follows a specialized investigative unit that delves into complex cold cases, with the narrative centered around Detective Carl Morck.

Returning to reprise his role as Morck is Matthew Goode, alongside familiar faces such as Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy. Although details regarding additional cast members remain under wraps, further announcements are expected as production progresses.

In addition to directing, Scott Frank resumes his role as an executive producer for the upcoming season, collaborating with Andy Harries and Rob Bullock. The project is produced by Left Bank Pictures in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.

As fans await the return of Dept. Q, the extended production timeline highlights the challenges faced in bringing this compelling narrative to life. With significant delays, viewers will need to remain patient as the team works to deliver the next chapter of this gripping crime saga.
