Businesses Brace for St. Patrick’s Day Surge Amid Construction
UPDATE: Broad Street businesses in Augusta, GA, are gearing up for a bustling St. Patrick’s Day celebration, even as ongoing construction reshapes the area. With the holiday just days away on March 17, 2023, local establishments anticipate a significant influx of visitors.
Brent Smith, manager at Dirty Boots Augusta, emphasizes the excitement surrounding this year’s festivities. “Any holiday brings everybody out of the house,” he stated. “Everybody’s trying to have a good time, so it’s definitely going to be busy.” This year’s St. Patrick’s Day is expected to draw larger crowds than in previous years, a crucial moment for local businesses.
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism is also contributing to the festivities by hosting the 18th Annual Breakfast at the Gallops on Friday, further enhancing the vibrant atmosphere expected on Broad Street.
Despite the anticipated crowds, the ongoing construction presents challenges. Parker Edwards, general manager at Mellow Mushroom, noted that customers have been navigating the construction zones. “Especially with what we’re doing out there right now, it’s kind of all changing and they get to see the work in progress that it is,” Edwards explained.
Some patrons may have to walk further than usual to access their favorite spots. “We definitely get a lot of people that are walking a few more blocks than they had to in the past to get down here,” Edwards said. “But we appreciate the commitment to make it to come see us.”
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, local businesses like Dirty Boots are taking extra steps to prepare for the surge. Smith highlighted the importance of being ready for the busy shift ahead. “I like to sleep as much as I can,” he remarked. “Get as much rest as I absolutely can. I can’t be a zombie in here. I got to be able to be attentive and pay attention to what everybody wants and what everybody’s saying.”
Edwards shared that events like St. Patrick’s Day not only attract locals but also visitors from outside Augusta. “Anytime there’s a big event like this, and I think St. Patrick’s Day in Augusta is something that people want to go to,” he said. “It’s always nice getting to see some out-of-town people come in and kind of see what Augusta has to offer.”
With construction reshaping the landscape, it remains to be seen how businesses will adapt to these challenges while making the most of the festive occasion. As the holiday draws nearer, local entrepreneurs are hopeful that the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day will shine through, bringing joy and community spirit to Broad Street.
As the countdown continues, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to support local businesses while enjoying the celebrations. Be prepared for lively parades, delicious food, and the camaraderie that St. Patrick’s Day in Augusta promises to deliver.
