UPDATE: Copenhagen’s quest for the girls’ basketball state tournament has ended as they suffered a 56-46 defeat to Stamford in the Class D regional final, held at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton on March 15, 2026.

The Golden Knights, who had an unconventional path to this point, displayed resilience but ultimately fell short in a gripping showdown. Trailing 29-23 at halftime, Copenhagen narrowed the gap to just five points with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. However, Stamford maintained control, not allowing the Golden Knights to come any closer as the clock wound down.

Copenhagen, finishing the season with a 12-11 record, was one of only two Section III teams to reach the state tournament despite losing their sectional finals. Their previous defeat came against defending state champion LaFargeville, where they lost 49-45 in the Class D sectional final just a week prior.

In a strategic decision, LaFargeville (19-4) opted to face Section X’s Chateaugay instead of Stamford, a move that ultimately did not pay off as they lost 42-37.

As the Golden Knights look ahead, they will return their top players, juniors Halle Miller and Mollie Babcock, who are poised to lead the team in the next season. Their performance this year has set a foundation for future success, with fans hopeful for a stronger campaign ahead.

This loss not only marks the end of the season for Copenhagen but also highlights the competitive spirit of high school basketball in the region. Teams are already gearing up for next year’s challenges, and the Golden Knights will be eager to reclaim their spot in the spotlight.

Stay tuned for more updates on local sports developments and insights into next season’s prospects.
