Warriors Waive Seth Curry, Prepare for Season Ahead
The Golden State Warriors made significant roster changes following the conclusion of the NBA preseason, announcing the waiving of guards Seth Curry and LJ Cryer on September 30, 2025. The decision comes after a busy offseason where the team sought to solidify its lineup, including the addition of veteran big man Al Horford.
The Warriors initially signed Seth Curry, the brother of star player Steph Curry, to a training camp deal. Although Seth Curry did not participate in any of the team’s five preseason games, he engaged in training camp activities, which provided valuable preparation time ahead of the regular season. The team released a statement confirming the roster moves, indicating that these changes are not unexpected.
Despite the decision to waive him, Seth Curry is likely to return to the Warriors once they can finalize a standard contract. LJ Cryer, a 24-year-old rookie from Houston, is expected to join the Santa Cruz Warriors, the team’s G League affiliate. The Warriors face financial restrictions that prevent them from signing Seth Curry to a full contract until November, leaving the door open for his return.
Seth Curry’s Shooting Prowess and Team Needs
The Warriors are keenly aware of their need for shooting depth this season. Aside from Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, and Moses Moody, the team’s options for outside shooting are limited. Last season, Seth Curry led the NBA with an impressive three-point shooting percentage of 45.6% while playing for the Charlotte Hornets. Throughout his 11-year career, he has maintained a notable three-point shooting percentage of 43.4%.
The Warriors’ decision to bring the Curry brothers together appears to be both a strategic move and a familial one. Having Seth Curry as a reserve could significantly enhance the team’s shooting capabilities, especially as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.
As the regular season approaches, the Warriors are focused on solidifying their roster and ensuring that they have the necessary talent to compete effectively. While Seth Curry will not start the season on the active roster, his potential return in November offers a strategic advantage for the team as they aim for a successful campaign.
In the coming weeks, all eyes will be on the Warriors as they navigate the complexities of their roster and prepare for their opening night matchup against the Lakers.
