Brandee Evans Reflects on Co-Starring with Kordell Beckham in ‘Reasonable Doubt’

Brandee Evans, star of the Hulu series Reasonable Doubt, recently shared her surprise at filming alongside reality television personality Kordell Beckham. During the episode that aired on October 16, 2023, Evans’ character, Monica, interacted with friends of another character, Ozzie, portrayed by Kyle Bary. Beckham, who is best known for his time on Love Island USA, played one of those friends.

Evans admitted to Us Weekly that she was unfamiliar with Beckham prior to their collaboration. “I’ve never seen Love Island. I didn’t know who Kordell was,” she stated. Despite this, she found him to be “kind” and noted that she would now consider watching the reality series.

In discussing Beckham’s performance, Evans recalled a humorous moment during filming. “He came into the scene with these balloons,” she explained. “If you go back and watch, he puts the balloons down because he’s new to acting. We all do it. I’ve done it too.” She laughed off the incident, stating, “I just acted with it. I was like, ‘It’s hilarious.’ The director loved it too.”

Evans described how, after the scene was cut, she playfully confronted Beckham about the balloons. “Kordell, not you putting the balloons in my face,” she recalled saying. She expressed appreciation for the collaborative atmosphere on set, noting, “That’s the type of set we have. We can literally joke with each other.” Ultimately, the scene, balloons included, was retained because of its comedic value.

Speaking of Beckham’s potential as an actor, Evans remarked, “If that’s the only thing that could tell that he was new to acting, that’s it. He was taking the director’s notes easily, he was fun to work with, and he knew his stuff. It was great, and I’m really excited for him. I hope his career does amazing after this.”

Reasonable Doubt, which premiered in 2022, focuses on a successful criminal defense lawyer navigating the complexities of her career and personal life in Los Angeles. As for the show’s future, Evans hinted at exciting developments in the upcoming season, stating, “Season 3 will include a new case involving Monica.”

“I’m very excited for everyone to see what happens because the best work to me is yet to come for Monica,” she shared. Evans is eager for viewers to experience her character’s evolution, emphasizing, “People are so used to Mercedes [from P-Valley] and I love that Monica is so different.”

In addition to her role in Reasonable Doubt, Evans is set to return as Mercedes in season 3 of P-Valley. She commented on the significance of the narrative in both series, stating, “P-Valley tells authentic stories, Reasonable Doubt tells authentic stories, and I am always looking for more authentic stories.”

Expressing her interest in diversifying her roles, Evans added, “I do want to do some comedy and a rom-com. People are so used to seeing me do these heavy roles, but I want you all to see fun Brandee.”
