UConn’s Joe Fagnano Shines in 38-25 Win Over BC, Sets Records
UPDATE: In a stunning display of skill, Joe Fagnano led the UConn Huskies to a decisive 38-25 victory over Boston College on Saturday, marking their first power conference road win since 2012. Fagnano’s extraordinary performance included 362 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions, solidifying his status as one of college football’s top quarterbacks.
This victory is critical for UConn (5-2) as they chase bowl eligibility, needing just one more win to reach this milestone for the third time in four years. Fagnano’s ability to remain calm under pressure was pivotal, as he connected with tight end Juice Vereen for 82 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his knack for big plays.
Fagnano completed 23 of 31 passes during the game, easily outperforming his opponents. Over the last two games alone, he has thrown for 717 yards and eight touchdowns without a single interception, making him the only quarterback in the nation with 1,918 passing yards and 15 touchdowns this season without a pick.
His coach, Jim Mora, praised Fagnano’s performance, stating, “Joe’s playing at a high level right now… it’s because of the work he does and the confidence he has.” Fagnano’s efficiency rating stands at 161.3, indicating his consistent ability to avoid mistakes.
Boston College coach Bill O’Brien also commended Fagnano’s composure, saying, “He knows where to go with the ball… give him a lot of credit.” Fagnano’s calm demeanor, coupled with his experience at 25 years old, sets him apart as a leader on and off the field.
Fagnano, who transferred from Maine, has seen a significant improvement since joining UConn, having thrown 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions over his career. His remarkable performance is attributed not just to his maturity but also to a solid supporting cast, including players like Skyler Bell and Victor Rosa.
As UConn prepares for their next game against Duke on November 8, excitement is building among fans. The team is averaging 37 points per game, ranking 21st nationally, and is poised for a strong finish to the season. Fagnano’s leadership and ability to perform under pressure could be the key to their success.
With a growing number of fans supporting the team, the upcoming games promise to be thrilling. Fagnano’s journey, from an FCS quarterback to a standout performer in a power conference, has captured the attention of college football enthusiasts. As he continues to defy expectations, the Huskies look to build on this momentum.
In Fagnano’s words, “At the end of the day all I care about is the win,” highlighting the team-first mentality that drives UConn football. As they gear up for the final stretch of the season, all eyes will be on Joe Fagnano and the Huskies.
