Dallas Funeral Home Worker Killed in Gruesome Burial Vault Accident
UPDATE: A tragic workplace accident at a Dallas funeral home has resulted in the death of a worker after he was crushed by a burial vault. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., on October 21, 2025.
Emergency responders from Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived on the scene to find a man pinned from the waist down by the heavy vault. According to Jason Evans, a spokesman for the department, crews utilized spreaders and air bags to lift the vault and rescue the trapped individual. Firefighters typically use this equipment in vehicle accidents, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Despite the swift response, the victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries to his lower body. Tragically, officials confirmed shortly after 5 p.m. that the man had succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.
Burial vaults serve as protective cases for caskets and coffins, made from materials ranging from concrete to steel. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by authorities, with no details available on what led to the vault’s fall.
The Urban Search and Rescue team was dispatched to assist in the situation, underscoring the urgency and complexity of the rescue operation. Restland Funeral Home has not issued a public statement regarding the incident, and inquiries have gone unanswered by both the funeral home and Dallas Fire-Rescue.
