Arlington Launches $19 Million Road Repair Initiative NOW

UPDATE: Arlington is investing $19 million in a major overhaul of its streets, with maintenance projects rolling out immediately across the city. This urgent initiative is designed to enhance road conditions and provide a smoother ride for residents.

The City of Arlington has confirmed that the funding will support key projects, including the Mill & Overlay program, Concrete Panel Replacement Program, and the Reclamation and Miscellaneous Concrete Program. These programs aim to improve at least 15 streets and repair 23 other roadways throughout the city.

This substantial investment is largely financed by the voter-approved quarter-cent Street Maintenance Sales Tax, which underscores the community’s commitment to maintaining essential infrastructure. The goal is not only to provide a more comfortable ride but also to extend the lifespan of Arlington’s streets, benefiting residents and visitors alike.

The process for selecting streets for maintenance involves an annual pavement survey combined with an Overall Condition Index (OCI) that rates streets on a scale from 0 to 100. Streets scoring below 50 are categorized as “red” and require a complete rebuild, while “yellow” streets, rated between 50 and 69.99, qualify for maintenance.

The Mill & Overlay program commenced this September and is scheduled for completion by September 2026. This initiative includes milling down asphalt surfaces by two inches before repaving with new asphalt, targeting streets like UTA Boulevard and its surrounding network.

Simultaneously, the Concrete Panel Replacement Program started in July 2025, focusing on replacing deteriorated concrete panels on “yellow” and “red” streets. Key areas like Road to Six Flags Street and West Sublett Road are among the first to benefit from this action.

The Reclamation and Miscellaneous Concrete Program, which began in August 2025, aims at reconstructing “red” streets by pulverizing existing asphalt and stabilizing the base with lime/cement before adding a new layer. Streets such as Alaska Court and San Paulo Court are set to be revitalized under this program.
