House Democratic Leader Suspends Rep. Ajay Pittman Amid Fraud Claims
UPDATE: House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson has just announced the suspension of Rep. Ajay Pittman amid serious fraud allegations following a formal investigation by the Oklahoma Ethics Commission. This urgent development comes as the ongoing ethics scandal intensifies, raising significant accountability concerns for the House Democrat from Oklahoma City.
Earlier today, Munson revealed that Pittman has been temporarily removed from all House Democratic Caucus activities, including her roles on assigned committees. This action follows the Ethics Commission’s recent lawsuit, which alleges that Pittman engaged in fraudulent activities related to campaign funds.
The lawsuit filed against Pittman accuses her of failing to properly manage campaign finances, with evidence surfacing that she improperly handled a check for $2,500 meant for her campaign account. In a shocking twist, it was revealed that she had previously settled with the commission in 2024 for various campaign finance violations, incurring fines totaling $35,000.
The scrutiny intensified after a complaint was lodged with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission, alleging that Pittman had not reimbursed campaign funds as required. Following the complaint, the commission voted to pursue a formal investigation and prosecute her in Oklahoma County District Court.
“While we maintain that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations regarding Rep. Ajay Pittman are severe enough that action was warranted,” Munson stated in her announcement. “The House Democratic Caucus has voted to temporarily suspend Rep. Pittman from House Democratic Caucus membership and activities pending the outcome of an investigation from the Attorney General.”
Moreover, Republican House Speaker Kyle Hilbert confirmed that Pittman has been removed from her position on the Tribal-State Committee as part of this ongoing ethical probe. This swift response underscores the gravity of the situation and the commitment to maintaining integrity among elected officials.
The Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus has emphasized its dedication to transparency and accountability, reiterating its focus on serving constituents and resolving issues affecting everyday Oklahomans. As developments unfold, the public awaits further updates on the investigation and its implications for Pittman’s political future.
As this story develops, it serves as a critical reminder of the importance of ethical conduct in public office. Stakeholders and constituents alike will be watching closely for any further actions from the Oklahoma Ethics Commission and the Attorney General’s office.
