UND Dominates St. Thomas 5-2; Prep Football Playoffs Heat Up

UPDATE: The University of North Dakota (UND) women’s soccer team has secured a decisive 5-2 victory over St. Thomas in a thrilling match earlier today, October 26. This result not only showcases UND’s dominance but also sets the stage for an intense playoff season ahead.

In the first half, UND’s Charlie Basinet scored two goals, first at 8:33 and then again at 20:25, establishing an early lead. Hunter Borgel added a third goal at 34:46. The second half saw further action with Amelisa Loeffler scoring at 48:34 and Yui Fujii netting a penalty kick at 51:02. St. Thomas managed to respond with goals from Sophia Barjesteh and Melina Knowles, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

Goalkeeper Grace Miller made a crucial save, stopping only one shot on goal, while St. Thomas’ Olivia Rowe faced a challenging game with 6 saves.

As the focus shifts to high school football, the North Dakota 9-man playoffs are heating up. Quarterfinal matches are set for this Saturday, October 31, including the number one seed, New Rockford-Sheyenne, taking on Grant County/Flasher at 2 p.m..

The North Dakota Division A playoffs will also see action on the same day, featuring key matchups like Hillsboro-Central Valley against Langdon Area-Munich at 2 p.m. and Dickinson Trinity at Killdeer at 2 p.m.. The excitement continues with semifinals on November 8 and the championship games on November 14 at the Fargodome.

Friday, November 1, will be pivotal for Minnesota fans as championship games are scheduled, including the Section 8A showdown between Mahnomen/Waubun and Red Lake County at 7 p.m. at the Fargodome.
