15-Year-Old Bentley Lane Harvests 233-Pound Buck in Heartfelt Hunt
BREAKING: In a thrilling family hunt, 15-year-old Bentley Lane from Hartland scored a remarkable 233-pound, 8-point buck on Saturday morning, a feat made even more special by using his grandfather’s rifle.
Lane was out hunting with his father, Ray Lane, when the deer appeared just after sunrise on their family property. Positioned in a tree stand, Bentley aimed a Browning A-Bolt .30-06 rifle, a cherished heirloom that belonged to his grandfather, Lewis Elliot.
Using two grunt calls to halt the buck, Bentley took his shot, firing once before shooting again as the deer dashed toward the woods. Only a short walk later, the father-son duo discovered the deer lying just 25 yards from the field’s edge.
Ray Lane praised his son’s composure and skill:
“He was patient, calm and confident. That’s what hunting’s all about — family, tradition, and spending time together outdoors.”
This memorable outing was not only about the hunt but also about strengthening family bonds.
As the excitement grew, Bentley’s mother, Gretchen Lane, and a family friend arrived to celebrate. After field dressing the deer, the family engaged in their traditional “guess the weight” game, ultimately confirming the buck’s impressive weight at the Newport Trading Post. This marked Bentley’s eighth deer and one of his largest.
For Bentley, the day was monumental. Harvesting the deer with his grandfather’s rifle and sharing the moment with family created lasting memories. The hunt didn’t end there; Bentley later played on the starting front line for Nokomis, contributing to a victory over Medomak Valley.
This story encapsulates the essence of family, tradition, and the thrill of the hunt, making it a day Bentley Lane and his family will cherish forever.
