UPDATE: Catawba County is set to host a crucial hazardous waste disposal event on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. This annual fall cleanup initiative aims to help residents safely discard hazardous household items, promoting public health and environmental safety.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free service, which will accept a variety of items, including styrofoam, paints, automotive products, pesticides, electronics, and household cleaners like oven cleaners and disinfectants. The event is organized by Catawba County Utilities and Engineering in partnership with the City of Hickory as part of a broader community cleanup program.

However, the event will not accept certain materials. Residents cannot drop off tires, radioactive waste, biologically active materials, explosives, or household garbage. Additionally, electronics with broken screens or missing parts will also be excluded from disposal.

For those unable to attend the event, Catawba County residents can utilize the Blackburn Landfill year-round for the disposal of similar items. The landfill offers services during regular hours, free of charge, enabling residents to dispose of items like paint, electronics, and household batteries safely.

This collection event highlights local authorities’ ongoing commitment to managing public health and environmental safety. By encouraging proper disposal methods, Catawba County aims to reduce pollution and ensure a cleaner community for all residents.

For more information, residents are urged to contact Catawba County Utilities and Engineering at 828-465-8217 or visit their official website. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a positive impact in your community—mark your calendars for November 1!
