A woman from the University of Georgia was assaulted by a man wearing a Nazi uniform at an off-campus bar in Athens, Georgia, on the night of March 14, 2024. The incident occurred at Cutters Pub when the man, identified as Kenneth Leland Morgan, allegedly struck Grace Lang, a 23-year-old student, during a confrontation with bar patrons.

Witnesses reported that the altercation began after Morgan was denied entry to the bar. Following this, he was confronted by those present, leading to the assault. According to Lang, she recognized Morgan as a friend of a friend, highlighting his familiarity within the local community. During the scuffle, she attempted to grab his armband adorned with a swastika, which resulted in him hitting her with a beer mug.

Video footage of the incident shows Morgan swinging the mug, making contact with Lang’s face, causing her to collapse. The University of Georgia condemned the attack, referring to it as “heinous antisemitic behavior.” In an official statement, the university expressed horror at the actions of an individual wearing a Nazi uniform in public and emphasized that Morgan is not affiliated with the university.

Local law enforcement responded quickly, apprehending Morgan shortly after the incident. He was booked early on March 15, 2024, at the Athens-Clarke County jail on two misdemeanor counts of simple battery and one felony count of aggravated assault. The university expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action and has offered counseling services to students who witnessed the event.

The incident has raised concerns within the community, prompting discussions about public safety and the re-emergence of hate symbols in social settings. The University of Georgia has urged its students to report any similar incidents and reassured them of available support resources.

As the investigation continues, the university and local authorities remain vigilant in addressing such acts of violence and promoting awareness against hate-driven behavior.
