UPDATE: As Halloween approaches, a new survey just confirmed the top three costume shops in Connecticut, providing locals with essential shopping guidance. Conducted by Montana Capital, the survey queried 3,011 shoppers about their favorite costume destinations, revealing locations that are must-visits as the spooky season approaches.

Leading the pack is the Goodspeed Musicals Costume Center in East Haddam, celebrated for its extensive collection and backstage atmosphere. According to Montana Capital, this costume center is a haven for theater enthusiasts, featuring beautifully crafted outfits that range from vintage elegance to playful character wear. “It’s a quiet treasure for Connecticut’s creative community,” noted the survey.

In second place, shoppers highlighted Sophia’s Gallery in Cos Cob, which offers a unique blend of glamour and imagination. This boutique is praised for its personal service and eye for detail, creating a shopping experience that feels more like styling a character than merely purchasing a costume.

Rounding out the top three is CT Stage in Plainville, known for its friendly atmosphere and diverse selection suitable for school plays and community events. The shop buzzes with excitement each autumn, welcoming families and theater fans as they search for standout Halloween looks.

As shoppers gear up for Halloween 2023, Montana Capital emphasizes the importance of budget-conscious spending. “Halloween should be fun, not financially frightening,” stated Shir Amram, COO at Montana Capital. The survey reveals that 52% of respondents are cutting back on Halloween expenses this year.

Many locals are finding creative ways to enjoy the season, with 65% opting to use cash or debit only, while 27% are using credit cards. Only a small percentage are turning to loans or borrowing from friends, highlighting a trend toward more responsible spending.

Despite budget constraints, Halloween remains a beloved occasion, with 70% of respondents viewing it as “a small but worth-it treat.” However, the costs are still a concern for many, as 30% admitted that Halloween expenses add stress they can’t afford.

The survey also asked respondents to identify which Halloween traditions would be the first to go if money got tight. Decorations topped the list at 30%, followed closely by party expenses at 28%. Notably, candy and costumes tied at 21%, showing that even the essentials are under scrutiny this year.
