Susanna Reid Reveals Weight Loss Journey and Lifestyle Changes
Susanna Reid, the well-known presenter of Good Morning Britain, has shared her successful weight loss journey, revealing that she lost 1.5 stone through dietary changes rather than gym workouts. The 54-year-old broadcaster, who has been a familiar face on the show since its launch in 2014, candidly discussed her struggles with weight gain during the coronavirus lockdowns and the steps she took to regain her health.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Reid explained how she gained weight during the pandemic, a challenge many faced. She admitted to struggling to “lose those pounds” after the lockdowns. In December 2018, while conversing with former co-presenter Piers Morgan, she revealed, “I stopped going to the gym; I found it made me too hungry.”
Changes to Diet and Lifestyle
Reid’s weight loss journey began after consulting her general practitioner about skin issues. Her doctor informed her that she was at the upper limit of the healthy BMI range for her height and advised her to lose weight. This prompted Reid to focus on healthier eating habits, eliminating snacking during her busy workdays. She now feels “fantastic” and has noticed significant improvements in her overall well-being.
She explained that the early morning start at 4 a.m. for her broadcasting duties contributed to her cravings. “Waking up so early puts you in an energy deficit,” she mentioned. “All your body can think is ‘have toast, have biscuits, have calories,’ and you can pile weight on really quickly.”
Reid has also made specific dietary choices, opting to eat fish while generally avoiding other meats. In a significant lifestyle shift, she gave up alcohol in 2019 after noticing its negative effects on her skin. She stated that drinking exacerbated her skin condition, leading to permanent scarring. Speaking to The Times, she reflected, “I’m rather glad I’ve given up drink because lockdown drinking, the pandemic prosecco, has been a serious issue.”
Commitment to Health and Sobriety
Reid’s commitment to her teetotal lifestyle is evident, as she even abstained from drinking during her recent 50th birthday celebrations. She expressed that giving up alcohol was a necessary step for her health, especially after experiencing frequent flare-ups and blemishes. Her skin’s condition was likely a reflection of her dietary choices, she added.
Despite the positive changes, Reid humorously noted that her sobriety has led to some light-hearted ribbing from colleagues, particularly from Piers Morgan, who dubbed her “the world’s biggest bore.”
With over a decade of experience on Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid continues to inspire many with her openness about personal challenges and her journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Her story resonates with those navigating similar struggles, proving that change is possible with determination and the right choices.
