Gamer Jesse Parker Launches Nero’s Cyberspace Lounge in Oroville
A new gaming facility, Nero’s Cyberspace Lounge, has opened its doors in downtown Oroville, California, providing a social space for gamers aged 18 and older. Owned by Jesse Parker, who has a personal history with gaming and its social benefits, the lounge aims to revive the communal atmosphere of gaming that has diminished with the rise of online play.
Parker, 28, reflects on his journey from being the “skinny nerdy kid” who faced bullying due to his autism and ADHD to becoming an entrepreneur. “It feels good,” he stated, embracing his identity as a gamer and anime enthusiast. He invites others who share these interests or are curious about them to join in the experience at his new venue.
A Return to Social Gaming
Parker believes that the gaming landscape shifted significantly around 2013 when online play became predominant. “Gaming first became popular in arcades, where kids and young adults could come together,” he explained. “Nero’s is a space to mainly encourage the social aspect of gaming, to essentially return it to form.” His vision for the lounge has long been in the making, driven by a desire for a physical space where gamers can connect, share experiences, and enjoy each other’s company.
After a prolonged search for an affordable location, Parker found a suitable suite in a mini mall at 1440 Myers St., with support from his parents and Brian Wong, the local businessman who owns the building. Following extensive renovations, which included painting, the installation of a large projection screen, and comfortable seating, Nero’s officially opened on October 30, 2025.
The lounge boasts a diverse collection of gaming consoles, including the original Xbox, Atari 2600, and an emulator featuring 620 retro games. Additionally, it offers a library of anime and cult-classic films, making it a unique destination for fans of both mediums.
Affordable Gaming for Everyone
To ensure accessibility, Nero’s provides a single-day pass that allows unlimited play for $20. Various membership packages are also available: the one-month Player 1 Pack for $45, the three-month Player 2 Pack at $40 per month, and the six-month Respawn Pack priced at $35 monthly. The lounge operates from Thursday to Monday, creating a welcoming environment for gamers seeking an alternative to traditional venues.
Parker’s passion for gaming began at age five when he received his first Xbox and a copy of “Halo” from his father. This experience not only provided a bonding opportunity but also offered him an escape from the bullying he faced. “It helped me find common ground with other people,” he shared, highlighting how gaming facilitated friendships throughout his life.
Beyond providing a safe space for gamers, Parker hopes to change perceptions about gaming. He aims to educate friends and family of gamers who view the activity as a harmful obsession. “Gaming isn’t some scary, hairy monster. It really is a healthy outlet, especially in a social, interactive, fun environment,” he asserted. “And that’s what I’m offering at Nero’s.”
