San Jose Rotary Launches $3.5 Million Peace Monument Project NOW
UPDATE: The Rotary Club of San Jose is taking urgent action to bring the highly anticipated Seeds of Peace Monument to Arena Green West, right next to the SAP Center. This initiative, led by local philanthropist Diane Brandenburg, was unanimously approved by the San Jose City Council on October 7.
In a statement, Matt Braker, President of the Rotary Club of San Jose, confirmed overwhelming support from club members for this pivotal project. “This aligns perfectly with Rotary International’s mission of promoting peace,” said Audrey Fox, President of the Rotary Club of San Jose Foundation. “Mrs. Brandenburg couldn’t have brought us a better project.”
Brandenburg has committed to covering the $2 million cost for the design and fabrication of the monument, created by artist Mario Chiodo. The Rotary Club plans to raise an additional $1.5 million to enhance the surrounding area, creating a civic arrival and gathering space that will include lighting, sound, and landscaping. This initiative aims to foster community connection and reflection, along with donor recognition features.
The installation of the monument is tentatively scheduled for late fall 2026, marking a significant milestone for peace advocacy in the San Jose area. Contributions can be made to the RCSJ Foundation at 1690 Senter Road, San Jose, CA 95112.
This project is not just an installation; it represents a long-term commitment to peace in the community. The Rotary Club of San Jose anticipates forming a dedicated Rotary Peace Committee to develop educational programs and performances that resonate with the community’s need for reflection and unity.
Why This Matters: The Seeds of Peace Monument is set to become a landmark symbol of hope and resilience in San Jose, encouraging dialogue and understanding in an increasingly tumultuous world. As communities worldwide strive for peace, this monument will serve as a beacon for future generations.
Stay tuned for more updates as this project unfolds, and consider supporting this meaningful initiative to promote peace in our local community.
