St. George Fire Department Unveils New Downtown Station Today
UPDATE: The city of St. George, Utah, has just unveiled its new fire station, a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities. On November 7, 2023, officials cut a fire hose to inaugurate the new Fire Station 1, strategically located at 85 South Flood Street, right in the heart of downtown.
“This new station is a dramatic upgrade,” said David Cordero, Communications and Marketing Director for St. George. The new facility is approximately three times larger than the previous headquarters located on 1000 East, providing better resources for firefighters and improved service for the community.
The upgraded station includes four apparatus bays, allowing multiple crews to operate simultaneously—a crucial feature for a city experiencing rapid growth. “Most of our stations can only support one crew, so this expansion is monumental,” Cordero added. The facility also boasts enhanced training rooms and improved living quarters, essential for the well-being of firefighters who often face high-stress situations.
The ceremony featured a traditional “push-in” event, a historic fire department ritual dating back to the 1800s, symbolizing the return of firefighters and their equipment after responding to calls. Notably, a vintage 1936 Studebaker, once part of the original St. George Fire Department, will be displayed in the new station, connecting the past with the present.
Cordero emphasized the importance of the new location, which previously served as the Fletch Street Chapel and was a community gathering space. “This station is not just for firefighters; it’s for the community,” he said, inviting residents to visit and engage with their local fire department.
Authorities confirm that the new fire station is a long-overdue enhancement, reflecting the city’s commitment to public safety and community service. As St. George continues to grow, residents can expect faster response times and improved emergency services from their dedicated fire team.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and learn how the new facility will impact the St. George community.
