Steve Cormier, Beloved Sports Fan and Friend, Passes Away at 56
Steve Cormier, a cherished member of the Portland community, passed away on November 2, 2025, after a brief illness. Surrounded by family and friends, he left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was 56 years old.
The youngest son of Donald and Susanne Cormier, Steve grew up in Gray, where he graduated from Gray-New Gloucester schools. Fondly known as “Squid,” he was celebrated for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor, traits that endeared him to many.
A Passion for Sports and Community
Steve was an avid sports fan, passionately supporting teams such as the Boston Bruins, the Red Sox, and the San Francisco 49ers. His enthusiasm for sports was matched by his love for golfing during his free time.
Professionally, Steve dedicated over 30 years to the manufacturing sector in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Throughout his career, he cultivated lasting friendships, demonstrating a commitment to camaraderie that left an indelible mark on colleagues and friends alike.
In his personal life, Steve married Laura, with whom he had two children, Ashley and Michael. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they maintained a close friendship. The loss of his son Michael in 2021 was a profound sorrow for Steve, as they enjoyed countless hours together watching sports and sharing experiences.
Remembering a Life Well-Lived
Steve was predeceased by his father, Donald, and his son, Michael. He is survived by his daughter Ashley, grandchildren Eva and Preston, mother Susanne Welton, brother Sean and his wife Dawn, niece Hope, and close friends Laura and Jeff.
In accordance with Steve’s wishes, he gathered with family and friends for a cookout shortly before his passing. There will be no further services held. The family expresses their gratitude to the Portland Center for Assisted Living (PCAL) for the exceptional care provided to Steve during his final days.
Steve Cormier will be remembered not only for his love of sports but also for the joy he brought to those around him, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and laughter.
