Ruth E. Gerardi, 100, Passes Away; Community Mourns Loss

BREAKING: Ruth E. Gerardi, a beloved community figure in Galway, NY, has passed away at the age of 100. She died on November 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to her community.

Born on December 2, 1924, in Green Island, New York, Ruth was known for her extensive work at Trustco Bank in Schenectady and her active involvement in local organizations. She joined the Galway United Methodist Church in 1948, where she served as an officer, choir member, and organizer of numerous fundraisers, significantly impacting the church’s outreach and community support.

Ruth was a charter member of the Galway Lioness and held roles in the Galway Women’s Club and the Galway Senior Citizens. She also contributed her time to the Saratoga County Aging Advisory Council, advocating for senior citizens in the area. Her commitment to service extended beyond these organizations, reflecting her deep love for her community.

In addition to her civic contributions, Ruth was passionate about knitting and enjoyed traveling with her family. She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Gerardi, and her sister, Shirley Cornell. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Kalinkewicz (Gary), her goddaughter Pam Neahr (Dave), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 12, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 13, at 10 a.m. at the Galway United Methodist Church, 2056 East Street, Galway. Burial will follow at the Galway Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Galway United Methodist Church, PO Box 303, Galway, NY 12074, or to Galway Emergency Medical Services, 2175 Galway Road, Galway, NY 12074.
