Beta Cinema Secures International Presales for ‘Operation Napoleon’ Sequel
Beta Cinema has successfully finalized a range of international presales for the upcoming Nordic conspiracy thriller, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf. The film, which is currently in production across Finland, Iceland, and Germany, has attracted significant interest from distributors worldwide.
Magnolia Pictures acquired the rights for North America, while other notable deals include Signature Entertainment for the UK and Ireland, Mediawan for France, Twelve Oaks for Spain, and Hagi Film for Poland. This sequel follows the successful release of the original Operation Napoleon, which was sold to over 40 territories, including the U.S. and proved to be a major box office hit in Germany in 2023.
As with its predecessor, the English-language sequel reunites key talent from the first film. Notable cast members include Vivian Ólafsdóttir from It Hatched, Jack Fox from Riviera, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his roles in Severance and True Detective. The film is directed by Jyri Kähönen, who previously worked on Trackers and Bordertown. The screenplay is written by original Operation Napoleon scribe Marteinn Thorisson and Tom Weston-Jones, recognized for True Things and Warrior.
Laura Birn, known for her roles in Void and A Walk Among the Tombstones, has also joined the cast. In the sequel, Ólafsdóttir takes on the role of Kristin Jóhannesdóttir, a lawyer embroiled in an international conspiracy after being falsely accused of murder. The plot follows Kristin and her team as they search for the legendary “Tears of the Wolf,” a hidden cache of Nazi diamonds from World War II.
After witnessing a murder, Kristin discovers encrypted codes and musical clues that lead the group on a journey through Iceland, Finland, and Germany. The story culminates in a thrilling confrontation set against the backdrop of Helsinki’s wartime bunkers and the Finnish archipelago.
The production team includes Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein from Germany’s Splendid Entertainment, Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Sagafilm (Sweden and Iceland), alongside Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg of Take Two Studios (Finland). Elsani Film is co-producing the project, with Sam Film handling its theatrical release in Iceland, Splendid Film in Germany, and Cinemanse in Finland.
At the ongoing American Film Market, Beta Cinema is presenting the first promotional reel of Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf, generating further excitement ahead of its release. This sequel aims to build on the success of its predecessor while delving deeper into the intricate web of conspiracy and intrigue that captivated audiences previously.
