UPDATE: A harrowing incident unfolded on the Lulumahu Falls Trail in Nuuanu Wednesday when a 25-year-old man was impaled by a tree branch. The emergency rescue, which occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m., saw Honolulu firefighters spring into action to save the hiker from serious injury.
The victim was hiking along the steep, muddy trail when the accident occurred. Emergency crews responded quickly to a 911 call, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Firefighters utilized an electric chainsaw to cut a six-inch branch that had skewered the man, enabling them to carry him off the treacherous terrain in a rescue litter. The operation was slow and challenging due to the slick conditions of the slope.
Medical personnel from Honolulu Emergency Medical Services provided advanced life support on-site before rushing the injured hiker to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The specific details of his injuries have not yet been disclosed.
