UPDATE: A New York man has been indicted on multiple charges, including Attempted First-Degree Murder, after a shocking police chase involving stolen cooking oil in Harford County. Juan Yahir Quiroz Manzueta, 29, was extradited from New York and charged following a harrowing incident that left a police officer injured.

The Harford County Grand Jury announced the indictment yesterday, confirming that the chase occurred on August 2025, on Maryland Route 136. Manzueta allegedly drove a Penske rental truck erratically, hitting several vehicles and striking Harford County Lt. Robert Burgess as he attempted to intervene. Lt. Burgess suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Shock Trauma, where he underwent emergency treatment but has since survived.

The truck was later discovered to contain stolen cooking oil, linked to a burglary at an Aberdeen Applebee’s restaurant, intensifying the severity of the charges against Manzueta. After fleeing the scene on foot, a manhunt was launched, ultimately leading to his capture and extradition.

Manzueta is now facing an extensive list of charges, including Hit and Run causing serious bodily injury. He is currently being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center, with a trial date yet to be announced. This case has drawn significant attention due to the bizarre nature of the crime and the serious implications for public safety.

Authorities are urging the community to stay vigilant as the investigation continues. The incident underscores the unexpected challenges law enforcement faces in maintaining safety amid unusual criminal activities. More updates are expected as the trial approaches, and the community watches closely to see how justice will be served.
