Ostro Sets Guinness World Record to Enhance Health AI Literacy

Ostro has achieved a significant milestone in health education by setting a new Guinness World Record for the most users completing an online lesson focused on AI and health literacy in a single day. On March 15, 2024, a total of 698 participants successfully finished the company’s virtual course within a 24-hour period. This initiative aims to enhance health literacy in a country where it has been previously lacking.

The course, which lasts 30 minutes, was developed in collaboration with the healthcare marketing agency Havas Health Network. Ostro, known for its AI-powered engagement technology aimed at life sciences companies, designed the lesson to connect AI experts with healthcare professionals. According to Ahmed Elsayyad, co-founder and president of Ostro, the course addresses the critical need for both communities to understand each other.

Healthcare professionals can gain insights into the applications of AI in their field, while AI specialists can learn about health literacy’s significance. Elsayyad pointed out that the course covers common questions regarding generative AI, specifically addressing concerns about its reliability. He noted, “I’ve heard folks afterwards saying, ‘I finally understand this — this idea that it’s important to be careful of generative AI,’ because unlike other use cases, in healthcare, you don’t want some random response from a Redditor to answer your question.”

Course Structure and Objectives

The course provides a comprehensive overview of AI applications within the healthcare sector, including compliance and the necessity of maintaining human oversight in decision-making processes. Chase Feiger, Ostro’s CEO and co-founder, described the course as a roadmap to simplify complex technical concepts and regulatory guidelines.

“The course is broken down into several different topics. There is a whole section on compliance, a whole section on human-in-the-loop,” Feiger explained. He emphasized the importance of integrating AI into existing healthcare frameworks. “We address how to implement and launch AI given the existing infrastructure and standards within life sciences. It’s very specific, and certain sections might resonate more with particular audiences.”

Although the Guinness World Record has been officially established, Ostro is keen to continue expanding the reach of the course. Both Elsayyad and Feiger expressed hopes that their initiative will inspire other AI companies to contribute to improving health and AI literacy.

By fostering greater understanding between AI and healthcare professionals, Ostro aims not only to enhance existing knowledge but also to cultivate a more informed dialogue about the future of technology in healthcare.
