Riot Games has announced the upcoming launch of its second expansion for the physical trading card game, Riftbound: Spiritforged. Players can anticipate a wealth of new features, including twelve Champion Legends, alternate art cards, and innovative mechanics when the set becomes available in English on February 13, 2026. The expansion is set to debut in China earlier, on December 12, 2025.

The new expansion will feature notable Champion Legends such as Rek’Sai, Draven, Irelia, and Lucian. Among the fresh mechanics introduced are Equipment, Gold, and Repeat. Equipment cards will attach to units and remain active even if the units themselves are defeated, providing strategic advantages. Gold tokens, associated with champions like Draven and Renata Glasc, will allow players more flexible power generation. Furthermore, Repeat spells will enable players to pay a card’s cost a second time to enhance its effect.

The design of Spiritforged draws inspiration from both the steelwork themes of the expansion and the mystical elements of Ionia’s Spirit Blossom universe. This creative blend influences the overall card design and the identities of the champions featured in the set. Collectors will also find appeal in the alternate art editions themed around Spirit Blossom, along with 30 new Overnumbered cards and 12 Champion Units included in the Overnumbered series.

Insights from Community Engagement

During the recent PAX Unplugged event, Riot Games provided additional insights, showcasing Signature variants for select Overnumbered cards and introducing new cross-set synergies between Spiritforged and the previous expansion, Origins. Game director Dave Guskin emphasized that the development team incorporated community feedback from the launch of Origins while shaping this new expansion.

Looking ahead, Riot Games confirmed the release of three more sets in 2026: Unleashed in May, Vendettas in the third quarter, and Radiance later in the year. Unleashed will introduce champions such as Vi, Rengar, and Master Yi, while Vendettas will focus on long-standing rivalries featuring champions including Akali, Mel, and Ambessa.

Competitive Landscape and Regional Qualifiers

Riot Games also announced a series of Regional Qualifiers, aimed at competitive players eager to engage with the game. The first English Regional Qualifier will take place in Houston, Texas, from December 5–7, 2025, followed by events in Bologna, Italy, from February 20–22, 2026, and Las Vegas, Nevada, from February 27–March 1, 2026. A total of 12 Regional Qualifiers will be held throughout 2026, with additional details expected in the coming months.

“We learned a tremendous amount from how players engaged with Origins,” Guskin stated. “Spiritforged builds on that foundation with new Champion Legends, new mechanics, and even greater collectability. We can’t wait to see what players create next.”

As anticipation builds for the launch of Riftbound: Spiritforged, players and collectors alike are eager to explore the new dimensions and strategies introduced in this exciting expansion.
